Today should have been graduation. Because we can't have a traditional ceremony right now with all the Covid restrictions, our school decided to have a parade to honor all the graduating seniors. The seniors were invited to decorate their cars and then drive a designated route up Scott Blvd where teachers, parents, and friends could cheer for them. Our car looked pretty good!
All the cars lined up at the south building. There were a lot of people already there when we got there, but even more came after us. Here we go!! Leaving the parking lot and heading to Front Street.
For safety, parents had to drive the cars, students or friends were not allowed to. Ryan sat on the window ledge so he could see everyone and wave.
Teachers and staff were on the sidewalk cheering and clapping. Britta's car has a pretty big crack in the windshield, so this was the best I could do.
It was pretty touching to me to see how much support everyone was giving the seniors.
Britta and Dagny made some posters to hold for Ryan and Britta thought it would be fun to wear a graduation gown. Dagny made the cutest cheerleader! She jumped up and down and waved her pompom. Denya is here too, she was the one taking pictures, but forgot to get any of herself.
Lincoln was excited to hold Dagny's poster. She drew a picture of Ryan and wrote his name. I love all the arrows pointing to his name. Ryan has quite the fan club!
Family, friends, and community members lined the sidewalk up Scott Blvd all the way to the Rec Center. I was surprised how many people there were.
Ryan was so happy when we got home, I just had to take another picture. This parade was really fun! Of course we would much rather have all the traditional activities, but since we can't, this was a really good alternative that boosted our spirits and helped the seniors to feel recognized and important. We love DCHS!
