We wanted to do something fun as a family during spring break, and Delwyn thought of the Littleton Historical Museum. We haven't been here in a VERY long time! It is an 1860's farm with animals, a house, barns, school building, and blacksmith shop. You are free to walk around and go inside the buildings. I thought these trees were beautiful, but they gave off quite an odor. The kids pulled their shirts up around their noses and it took quite a bit of talking on my part to get them to look nice for a quick picture. It might look like popcorn popping on the apricot tree, but it definitely didn't smell like it!
The first animal we saw was this donkey. He was very friendly and wanted to be petted, even though the sign says not to touch the animals. Delwyn, being a farm boy, had to give him some attention and some petting. Britta wasn't quite as anxious.
The kids finally got brave enough to pet the fun donkey.
There is a big pond and we saw all these turtles lined up on a rock sunning themsleves.
This is the school. Blake is sitting at the teacher's desk and the students sit at tables going all the way around the walls. The kids are glad schools aren't this way today. They thought it would get pretty boring looking at the wall all day, but hey, I pointed out, less distractions means they would they get their work done sooner. Maybe more recess time!
This stove is in the middle of the school building. Britta pretended it was winter and she was warming up her back side.
There was a broom in the corner of the school and we wondered if naughty kids had to sweep the floor. Ryan isn't naughty, but he wanted to give it a try. Too bad he's not that excited to sweep the floor at home!
One thing about living in the 1860's...no bathrooms! I don't think Britta would have like waiting for her turn in the outhouse, especially during the cold winter months!
It was fun to climb up into this wagon. It made us thankful for cars to get us where we're going in a hurry.
Blake wanted to give Britta a ride, but it's much heavier than he thought.
There were several baby lambs that were born just this week. They were very cute! From the looks of the mother sheep, shearing time is just around the corner.
Good thing Delwyn knows so much about farm machinery and could tell us the names of each piece of equipment and what it is used for.
Ryan's favorite place was the Blacksmith Shop.
He got to help the blacksmith make a nail.
After the nail was formed, it was still red hot, so the blacksmith put it in this can of water of cool down. Boy, did it sizzle! Blake's job was to get it out after it had cooled. I think he was a little nervous and was hoping it wasn't still hot.
There were a lot of chicken pecking and running around near the barn.

This is the kitchen inside one of the houses. Every inch of shelf space was used to hold all their jars and utensils.
The house had a piano in it and Britta promptly sat down to give it a try.
We had just been to the Blacksmith Shop and learned about a bellows and how to blow the fire with it. Ryan wanted to practice.
The closet in the bedroom had some clothing and aprons it in. Britta wondered how she would look as a pioneer--pretty cute! We had an enjoyable time at the Museum. It was fun to look back in time and realize how much time it took just for daily life of eating, cleaning, planting, and harvesting. Made us thankful for the convenient, easy life we have today!
