Ryan Makes a Denim Quilt

Quarantine life is ROUGH! Especially for Ryan who should be in the middle of swimming season, finishing his senior year, and hanging out with his friends. He gets bored and restless, which is understandable. I suggested he could make a denim quilt. He made one when he was 11 or 12 and is really good at keeping the seams straight. I have a lot of denim already cut up and I have a stash of flannel that I bought when it was on sale. He liked the  idea and wanted to make a bigger one since he is so tall. I gave him a few quick reminders on how to use the sewing machine and he was sewing up the strips in no time.

Delwyn enjoys the tying part, and he had that done in a day. He has been working from home and they are running a test. Most of his work has been late at night, so he has some spare time during the day.

Ryan cut all the yarn,

and helped trim off the extra batting.

Then I worked on folding the edges over for the binding.

The white yarn really pops off the dark colors. He used both blue and black denim.

TaDa! It's finished! He's quite proud of it, and he should be!

Nice and big! Great job Ryan! 

Sleepover

We had a pretty big snowstorm yesterday and ended up with 10 inches of snow. We were expecting this storm and Landon packed some pajamas for the kids in case he couldn't make it over here to pick them up. It was a good thing because there was some wind too and that makes for tough driving, so the kids spent the night. We read a couple of bedtime books, and they were all tucked in and ready to sleep.

This is what we woke up to the next morning. Thank goodness it is spring break and Ryan did all the shoveling.

I bought this step stool a long time ago so the kids could wash their hands in the kitchen without me having to hold them while they washed. They love to sit on it and they were so cute today, I just had to take a picture.

Dagny's turn. 

Best friends, well most of the time at least.

This is what the backyard looked like. The kids were so excited to go out and play. I wondered if they would even be able to walk through it because it is so deep.

We tried to make a snowman by rolling a ball of snow. Failure. I have never been good at making snowmen that way. We tried to build a snowman by  just piling up some snow and when I went to look for some rocks for eyes, Lincoln kicked it down, so that was the end of that.

Dagny found a big icicle that was covered in snow and she wanted to take a bite. It was fresh snow that wasn't dirty, so I let her.

Sliding on the little slide and landing in a pile of snow was great fun for Lincoln

The slide on the swingset had so much snow on Dagny couldn't even make it to the bottom.

After watching Dagny, Lincoln wanted to fill the slide with snow and see how far down he could make it before stopping.

Here he comes!

There was way too much snow to jump on the trampoline, so Dagny sat down and buried her legs.

Dagny got cold and went in the house before we did. I told Lincoln he could have 10 more minutes and then we were going inside too. The next thing I knew Dagny had opened the window and was calling to us! Smarty pants! I had no idea she knew how to open the window! She looked so cute with her head sticking out the window. Fun day in the snow!
It wouldn't be Spring Break without a snow storm, I swear we get one every Spring Break!

Spring Break

Spring break was a sad week. Because of the corona virus, things are closing down. Everyday something else closes. Melissa's Dad is here, so I didn't have any big plans, but I thought I would take the kids to the Rec Center and swim and maybe do one more thing--maybe the Children's Museum or the Aquarium, and of course story time at the libary on Friday. None of that happened. We just stayed home and played. Dagny made a house with some stuffed animals and books.

We played outside quite a bit. Just a little static from the trampoline.

I bought some Paw Patrol bubble machines that blow bubbles when the button is pushed. We have a hard time with bubbles around here, the kids always spill the bottles of solution. Last summer I bought some bubble guns, but they broke pretty easily. Hopefully these will be better and hold up throughout the summer at least. Dagny has Skye.

Lincoln has Chase.

For some reason, Dagny and Lincoln have fallen in the love with the baby swing. I can't imagine why they think it is so fun. They have to take turns because they are both so obsessed with it

I haven't watched Calista much lately. I might have some sad kids on my hands when she's here and needs this swing.

Dagny can pump a little bit now, happy day!! So I'm really surprised she wants in the baby swing. Tomorrow there is snow in the forecast, so this is probably the end of our backyard fun.

Ryan had a pretty quiet spring break too. He went to Gavin's once and that was about it. Schools are taking a second week off and will do some on line learning. I hope this virus isn't around too long.

Dagny Gets Her Ears Pierced

When Dagny came into the house today for Sunday dinner, she was shouting, "Look, look! I got my ears pierced!" She was so, so excited!

Megan took her to Claire's earlier today to get it done.  She showed me the pictures she took while they were there and of course I wanted them.  Isn't she just so cute and full of excitement??

She cried two tears, then she saw herself in the mirror and everything was fine. Plus they gave her a lollipop, and that made her happy.

What a beautiful girl!

Claire's School Program

Claire's class has been studying different countries and they presented a program to showcase what they had learned. I was so happy they invited us!

Claire is in Mr. Otte's class and so they were first. They sang their little hearts out!  Plus they were singing in another language!! It was amazing. We were laughing afterwards that the music teacher needs to come to Primary and help them sing a little louder. They had a few hand actions in parts of the songs. They also did a dance from another country. Claire's class did a circle dance, skipping and clapping. It was so cute!

Then we headed to her classroom. Claire showed us her paper that she had written about the flag that was hanging in the hallway. She has learned a lot! Great job!

Each student had made a slide show about a country. She taught us all about Russia, the food, the weather, the culture, and landmarks. Each page had a picture with a couple of sentences. Amazing to think that second graders are so good with technology.

Near the office was display of flags that groups of students had made. Claire's group did Switzerland, which is at the very top. She was so proud of all her work and so excited to show us everything. I was a proud Grandma for sure to see how well she is doing in school.

Ryan's Winter Choir Concert

The winter concert is always a combined music concert with the choir, orchestra, and band all performing. I thought it might be hard to buy tickets with so many students, but I didn't have any trouble. Tickets are $3 and I think it benefits the music department.

The Singers performed two songs. I felt like most of the music tonight was kind of somber and not as upbeat as it usually is. It's hard to believe our days of attending concerts at the High School are coming to an end, only one more. Sad day! I have really loved all the music and theater my kids have been involved in. Good thing the grandkids live here. It will be fun to see what activities they choose to be involved in and I have every intention of watching their performances.
