Christmas Celebration in Utah

We always go to Utah for a few days between Christmas and New Year's. In all the years since I've been married, 33 to be exact, I can only think of two times that I haven't come. One was the year Landon got married on December 29 in California, and we didn't come last year. It just doesn't seem like Christmas if I don't spend some time here. Sometimes part of the family stays home, but I have only missed those two years.  Britta stayed home this year. She really, really wanted to go the New Year's Dance the church puts on for the youth. Mom gave the kids money this year. She says she is out of ideas for teenage gifts. She has given jackets, pajamas, tee-shirts, and sweat pants over the years.

Blake gives Grandma her present from us.

New towels!

One of our favorite things about coming here for Christmas--the chimes!! Those who live here do the nativity story and the chimes before Christmas. We have our turn when we get here. Not the Nativity, since Christmas is over, but we do play the chimes.

Mom has charts of songs. Each chime has a number and she points as we go along. When she points at your number on the chart, you hit your chime with a spoon.

Gordon's family lives out of town as well, so there are here for a visit too.

Mom is famous for her homemade candy! It's one of the things we love most about coming here during the holidays. I was slow getting a picture, the plate had gone around the room a couple of times. My favorites are coconut balls and turtles.

My Grandpa Taylor loved the card game Rook and always wanted to play a few hands whenever he came to visit. I learned to play in my youth and I have taught my kids. It's one of their favorite games. You play as a team and Mom and Denya were the winners of this game!

Christmas 2015

Each year I take a picture of the kids lined up to go downstairs. They have been some of my favorite pictures over the years.

Ryan was really excited to get a drum set! He didn't think he would get one because they are so big and we don't have a lot of room. I was surprised that it came in pieces and we had to put it together.

New goggles for all the swimmers!

Denya got a Kindle fire. Several years she ago she got a Kindle that is just for reading. A Kindle fire connects to the internet and so you can access everything, play games, AND read books.

We get a new game every year and Denya suggested this one, Telestrations. You get a word, and have to draw a picture, then pass it on. We played it this afternoon and we laughed so much my stomach muscles hurt.

It wouldn't be Christmas for Ryan without a new video game.

I don't know who is more excited about Britta's bike, her or me! I am really looking forward to some long rides with her. You never know about Christmas in Colorado, some years we have snow on the ground, and some years we don't. We do have snow this year, so no chance to try it out, at least for a few days.

What is Blake going to do with a shotgun??

He is pretty excited about it.

Working on the drum set, it took quite a while.

One piece of the drum put together!

Part of Ryan's drum set, silly girl, even though it does make a great hat.

Finally finished! Let the drumming begin! All the kids wanted to have a try.

Vests for the girls.

We waited for Landon and Megan to open presents. Dagny was ready!

 Lots of fun shaped packages!

Blake bought this BIG present for me at Thanksgiving. I have had to look at it for an entire month and wonder what it could possibly be. I am so excited to finally open it!

A fire pit!! I have been wanting one for a long time.  I can hardly wait to make s'mores and sit around the fire!

Landon and Megan got theatre tickets to the play, "Catch Me If You Can." Exciting!

Denya got this unique candle from Megan. There is a ring hidden somewhere inside and you burn it until you find it. The ring can be valued from $10 to $100. What a fun thing!

Dagny was happy to carry around a present. She didn't care that much about opening it, she just wanted to carry it.

I think she is going to like this!

Ryan opened a blow gun a few minutes ago and Blake thought it was pretty exciting. Looks like he is getting one, too!

Wade and Kimberlea gave Delwyn a dutch oven cook book. He has been saying he wants to get better at dutch oven cooking. Get busy practicing, we will gladly eat all your recipes!

A big present for Landon and Megan!

A double stroller!! Perfect!! They are expecting a baby in May.

Blake loves waffles! He had waffle maker that he took to college, and it broke. He will be back to making breakfast now.

Blake had a very unusual gift for Delwyn. We all knew what it was and were carefully watching to see his reaction. He was smiling and smiling, and then he laughed and laughed.

Delwyn loves John Wayne! It will be perfect on his desk at work, or at home on the bookcase, wherever he decides to put it.

I'm expecting lots of music from these two. Each book has over 1,000 pages! Wow!

Denya gave me a bracelet that has a birthstone for each of my kids. I was very touched and love it so much!

I wanted to get a close up picture of it.

Aunt Denya and Dagny spend some time together.

Landon put the stroller together and gave it a try around the kitchen. Dagny enjoyed it. I see lots of fun walks coming up this spring and summer.

Merry Christmas! I'm so thankful for the birth of our Savior, His life and example. This is my favorite time of year.

Christmas Party with the Edwards

Kimberlea's family is here for Christmas and they invited us over to play Robber's Bingo. We played it with them last year, and we were excited to do it again.

All of the presents are put in the middle of the room.

We go around the circle and take turns choosing a present. You can take a present from the middle of the pile or steal one from someone else. Presents can be popular based on the wrapping paper or size.

Denya stole this big one!

Dagny found one just her size!

Blake tried to guard his presents, he didn't want anyone stealing what he had chosen.

After all the presents are chosen, it's time to open them. We each ended up with 3 presents.

Carolee started laughing and laughing went Wade started to unwrap this. We all could hardly wait to see what it was!

Giant scissors! No wonder she was laughing so hard!

Does Blake's hair need a trim? Wade is excited to try them out!

This present has a lot of tape, let me borrow those scissors! Great fun and lots of laughing.

The Edwards also brought an ugly sweater cookie decorating kit. It had sugar cookies, frosting, and sprinkles.

Our sweaters turned out adorable! There was nothing ugly about them!

Denya had so much fun, she made 3 cookies!

A close up of her cookies, too cute to eat!

Our collection of Christmas sweaters! Thanks Edwards' family! I'm so glad we get along well and have so much fun together!
