Ryan Makes a Quilt

Ryan has really been wanting to make a quilt.  Maybe Melissa inspired him when she was here and made hers.  Blake is always wrapping up in one that Grandma Collins made for us--maybe he is envious of that--I don't know.  He has been asking and asking when he could get started.  I was a little hesitant that he could do it.  If you don't keep the seams straight and even, the blocks won't line up when you sew the seams together. I finally gave in and let him give it a try. Much to my suprise--he did great! When I thought about the kind of person that he is, I shouldn't have been so surprised. He is exact and concise in a lot of things that he does. I cut the blocks out and he sewed them together into strips. I didn't think he would be able to sew the strips together, but once again I was surprised.

Ryan caught on to tying the quilt pretty quickly.  At first he was a little embarrassed because he thought that sewing was only for girls.  I assured him that boys can also enjoy sew and many fashion designers are men.

He was pleased with how soft and cozy his blanket feels. He wanted to take a nap with it.

He was so proud of himself--and so was I! Great job, Ryan!

Easter 2012

Easter seemed a little scarce this year, with only three kids at home, but it didn't make it any less fun. The kids were being silly while we colored the eggs. Britta wondered how the dye would taste, but she didn't actually try it.

Our coloring kit had red, purple, green, orange, yellow, and blue.
Ryan shows off a mastpiece egg that is just the right shade of blue. He doesn't like to eat them, but they are sure fun to color.
Blake is pretty creative when it comes to egg dying. Last year he made a ninja and this year he wants to try a penguin.

The Palmer Easter Egg Collection!
Dressed up in their Easter best and ready for church! The kids always get a little suprise or two in their Easter baskets along with some candy.  Blake got a I-tunes gift card, Britta got some gold flip-flops, and Ryan got new swimming goggles.
This picture isn't zoomed in enough to see up close, he is very proud of his Batman cuff links!
It took a lot of shopping for Britta to find the perfect Easter dress. Happy Easter!

Ryan's Birthday

Ryan is turning 10! He wanted to arrange the candles in the shape of a one and a zero.  He used eighteen candles and Blake and Britta gave him such a hard time about that.  Oh well, we'll see if he can blow them all out!
Grandma and Grandpa Collins sent a card with $20.  Ryan has been waiting and waiting to open it ever since it arrived!  No thoughts yet on what he wants to buy, saving is always a good option.
Ryan has been wanting a fishing pole. Not quite sure why--we are not a fishing family, but I suppose we will have to give it a try now that he has this nifty equipment complete with tackle box.
Ryan has always been a Rockies Fan, and was very excited to get a new Rockies shirt.

Ryan asked for a telescope for his birthday. I didn't know he was interested in astromony, maybe the whole family will learn something. A couple of months ago, the Cub Scouts spent a night studying the stars and looking at the constellations.  I wonder if that sparked his interest.
Ryan takes a peek. After Delwyn got it set up, we went out on the porch and tried it out.  We saw a few stars and the moon. Exciting! It will be fun to use it this summer when the weather is nice and warm. Happy Birthday Ryan!! You add so much to our family, and we are blessed because of you!
