For his Eagle Scout Project, Blake is making 12 cube chairs for handicapped kids in the Douglas County School District. These chairs are for kindergarten and 1st grade children who can't sit on the floor for whatever reason. Home Depot generously donated all the supplies. Their associates cut the wood down to size.
This is Jason, one of the store managers. He was fabulous in answering questions Blake had about constructing the chairs. Sue Phillips, the Occupational Therapist at the school requested lime green and bright light blue for the colors. Blake picked out the paint and Jason suggested the brushes we would need.
Blake and the priests from our ward spent two nights at the Blanches barn sanding the chairs and putting them together. Russell has a business making railings, and he is a talented wood worker.
Gavin is routing around the handles so they will be smooth.
Delwyn and Russell glued and assembled the chairs.
Brother Dowdy has a detached garage in addition to his regular garage and he offered to let Blake paint the chairs in his garage. Blake got everything set up.
So, for a Young Men/Young Women combined activity, the youth came and painted the chairs.
A lot of kids came and it was really fun. They did a great job!
We brought pizza and cookies for the hard working youth.
The finished chairs! They are really quite cute. A couple of the Young Women leaders who have little kids commented on how nice they were and they would like to have some at home.
Blake presented the chairs to Sue Phillips at the school district. She was so excited and so grateful to get them. Whew! I am glad we are done! We will have the Court of Honor this spring with a couple of boys from our ward who are currently working on their Eagle projects. Good job Blake!
