Starlighting

Last year Wade and Kimberlea went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert to kick off the Christmas season. They had such a great time they wanted to go again this year and take Carolee, so I had Calista and Everlee. Today is the Starlighting. A few years ago they started doing the fireworks on top of the Castle Rock, which is just perfect for us! We can go out into the circle and have the best seats!

Delwyn brought out his Big Buddy propane heater that he uses in the garage, we got out some camping chairs and blankets, and we were ready for the show to start.

In 1936, the Great Depression hit hard and people were looking for hope, which came in the idea of a large star on the Castle Rock which would entice travelers to stop in this town.  The star was a success and has become a yearly tradition. There are 100 light bulbs in the star and it is maintained by the fire department. There are festivities all afternoon including caroling, Santa Claus, booth, vendors, hot chocolate, some years they have had live reindeer and live nativity exhibits. A few years ago they added fireworks to the celebration and shoot them off from the stop of the star. Some years we go and some years we don't.

 Britta loves this tradition and wanted to FaceTime with me while the fireworks were going off. That was super fun!! Calista and Everlee loved it as well, clapping, and cheering. Calista liked the red lights the best. I sure love this town and I'm so glad we landed here!
