After 5 long months of waiting, it's time for Britta's mission! Last night she got set apart as a full time missionary by President Lindsey. In her blessing she was told that family members from the other side would be helping and supporting her and that family members of the people she is teaching who are on other side would also be helping her. That was so touching to me. I know Blake will do all he can to help her and I'm sure Grandma Palmer is so, so excited that she is going to Sweden that she will be a big support too, as will all of our family members from the other side.
If Britta looks a little tired, we got up at 3 am for a 6 am flight to Salt Lake. When the boys went on their missions, there was a short meeting at the MTC for missionaries and family members. They gave some fun trivia, like how many pounds of potatoes they go through in a week, had a speaker, and some music. The moms got to put the first badge on their missionary. They don't do that anymore, it's just a curbside drop off, so because it is a long drive and you never know about winter weather, we decided to just put her on a plane.
The airport was really crowded! We stood in line to check her bags for quite some time, we were all getting a little nervous, and then a worker came and announced that anyone with a 6 am flight should come to a special counter to get checked in. Security was another long line, so we went to the bridge security which was much shorter.
I wanted to take another family picture, but we didn't have time. I did get a quick picture of these two saying goodbye. If Ryan's eyes are a little red, it's because he started crying on the way to the airport. He is really going to miss his sister. They have developed such a close relationship this past year. My Mom heart is very full that my kids love each other so much.
It was also really hard for Britta to say goodbye to her neices and nephew. She loves to play with them and they bring such joy to her life. It's hard to think that when she gets back Madeline will be Lincoln's age, Camille will be starting kindergarten, Dagny will be 4 and a half, and Claire will be just 2 months away from getting baptized. Little kids grow and change so fast. We had a family dinner last night of meatballs and mashed potatoes. Britta hugged each one extra tight and the tears flowed.
Good luck Sister Palmer!! We love you and know you will do amazing things!
