"Nice Night for a Coon Hunt"

It started last spring. Raccoons were getting into our garbage cans that we keep on the side patio. They would tip them over and tear the bags apart and make a huge mess. It was so awful to clean up! Paper was torn apart, leftover food was scattered around, and it was sticky. Delwyn and Blake saw them a few times, but it was always dark and we didn't know what to do about it.

Delwyn was telling one of his co-workers about it and they offered to let us borrow this trap. We baited it with several things, marshmallows, bacon, carrots and lettuce, but we never caught anything. Then someone told Delwyn to try cat food. It took a few nights, but we were successful!

He is just a little one, and he is so cute! I like this picture because you can see his tail. He just sat there patiently. We were surprised he wasn't trying to get out or thrashing around.

He stuck his little paw out like he wanted to shake hands. Sorry little guy, but you are going to a new home out past Wolfensberger Road, where there aren't many homes and it's more like the country. You are cute, but not cute enough that I will let you stay here and get into our garbage. Blake took him to his new home and set him free, where he ran to the nearest tree and started climbing. I'm sure he has some family members around, so we will continue to set the trap.
