Tonight was Ryan's first band concert! He has been playing the flute for abour 6 weeks. He stays after school twice a week for group lessons. There are only about 10 kids from Castle Rock Elementary that take band. For the concerts, all the feeder elementary schools to Douglas County High School join together, so there were about 40 kids elementary kids. The elementary, middle school, and high school bands all performed at this concert. It was great!
The elementary band played three songs, Rolling Along, Hot Cross Buns, and Go Tell Aunt Rhodie. Ryan was quite nervous, which suprised me. He has played in three piano recitals and hasn't ever been nervous. In piano recitals, if you make a mistake, everyone knows because it's only you! In a band concert, if you make a mistake, the other instruments cover it up. Ryan did great and didn't make any mistakes!
Ryan is very interested in music. He takes piano and flute lessons. He also has a guitar and wants to learn it as well. I wanted to take a picture of him with his flute, but he already had it put away and didn't want to get it out again. After the concert, we went to Sonic. Ryan was very thirsty from all that blowing and wanted a grape slush. It was a fun evening!
